I plan to share some of my poetry here, pre publication…

Here is an initial installment.

Astral Projection

                By Shelley Kahn

Skyward, ever higher -we travel

Feeling that spark of exploration

Spotting the constellations from

Our childhood stargazing with

Our loved and lost companions

We rise, even in our dream state

With the darkened half awake

Stillness of our tangled blankets

Coiled fast around our waists

We move upward never knowing

Whether our next mission to

The endless black abyss

Will be our final unburdening

In this-our night coupling

of deep breathing

And subconscious flight

We yearn for the voyage

Without backward glance

Nor ever doubting

As we do in daylight

That we may someday

Be the first one

To place our well wrapped Boot -

Ever so firmly

Upon our personal moon.

A bit about the author first….

I am employed in the Washington D.C. area in federal service as a civil rights attorney, but my heart often pulls me to the Delaware coast. My husband and I have lived part time in Bethany Beach for the last 18 years.

My poems have been featured in a number of publications, including Melancholy Hyperbole, Dove Tales, and the Broadkill Review, as well as in the local RBWG  anthologies  “Rehoboth Reimagined.” and “ The White Space.” I am an active member of the Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild, and have read selected excerpts of my poetry at local events.  Most recently, I have published a debut collection of poems titled “Seasons Lost and Found” that is carried in local independent bookstores and on Amazon.
